VHS Movie Reviews of WWE Survivor Series 2002 - Elimination Chamber [VHS]

Movie Review: Overrated But Still Great
Summary: 4 Stars

WWE Survivor Series 2002 was one of my favorite PPVs after the name change, but it still felt lacking.

1. Six-Man Table Match
Jeff Hardy, Bubba Ray Dudley & Spike Dudley vs. 3-Minute Warning & Rico
This was an incredible match, a perfect way to start the PPV. Great table spots, spots outside the ring and one sick high spot by Jeff Hardy. 5/5

2. Cruiserweight Championship
Jamie Noble w/ Nidia vs. Billy Kidman
Another good match, but mostly because of Kidman. Noble never impressed me, and I hated his white trash gimmick. Noble did give a good try though. Kidman gave a great match, with a ton of innovative moves. This is a WWE Cruiserweight match you need to check out. 4/5

3. Women's Championship Hardcore Match
Trish Stratus vs. Victoria
Better than most women's matches. They really impressed me and used a decent amount of weapons. I was never into Victoria, but her psycho gimmick fit well in this one. 4/5

4. WWE Championship
Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman vs. Big Show
ehh. This was one of the matches that brought down the PPV for me. Way too short, a bit boring but most of all, I just didnt care about either of these guys. Also, it's sad to see Paul Heyman involved in the WWE like this. But I understand he needed a job. Very little wrestling in this one, as it was more for the storyline. 2/5

5. WWE Tag Team Championship Triple-Threat Elimination Match
Edge & Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero & Chavo Guerrero
A really good tag team match. Edge and Mysterio really bored me though. I thought they put the least amount of effort into this match. Sorry but Mysterio just does the same high-flying moves followed by a 619 and a West Coast Pop. As soon as Mysterio & Edge were eliminated, I thought the match picked up. But the other two teams did a great job and they mixed well, lots of "what's going to happen next" moments. There was a good ending to the match also. 3/5

6. World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Match
HHH vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kane vs. Booker T vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Shawn Micheals
A good match but overrated at the same time. Great show by Van Dam and some exciting moments but in between those moments I got bored. Lots of decent wrestling too. The right person one, and it was exciting to see Micheals wrestle again, as this was his second match in 4 years. But again, I felt this wasn't as great as people said it was or as great as it could have been. 4/5

Movie Review: The best PPV of 2002
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the best ppv of 2002 IMO, only 6 matches but only one was some sort of a let down but washable, this is my personal opinion of the ppv. (Ratings are out of 5)

Bubba Dudley, Spike Dudley and Jeff Hardy vs 3 Minute Warning and Rico (Tables match): This opener was the match i just was expecting for a table match, with a lot of spots and some hardcore wrestling, with Jeff Hardy doing his Swanton from the top of one door, and a good ending with the reunion of the Dudley Boyz, making it a solid opener. Rating: ***1/4

Jamie Noble vs Billy Kidman: Good match from this cruiserweights with some innovative moves like the DDT with Kidman feet on the top rope was really sick, and some high flying spots that made the match worth washing. Rating ***

Victoria vs Trish Stratus: Not all the days you can see a hardcore woman match, so just for the record, if you think that women matches are just the same, you just go and see this match, also Victoria has a nose bleed during the match, so just for the type of match and the way these girls pulled out, i gave it a rating of ***1/2

Big Show vs Brock Lesnar: The prematch hype was dissapointing since they put Lesnar as the underdog against a 7 foot monster, and if you now see Cena doing the AA to the Big Show and get impressed, see Lesnar absolutely manhandle the Big Show the way he did in this match, suplexing and giving him an F-5, but the ending really sucked and hurt the match. Rating **1/2

Guerreros vs Mysterio and Edge vs Angle and Benoit: Good match, Angle and Benoit predictably had problems with each other and that cost them the titles, and Eddie makes Mysterio tap out to el Lasso from El Paso, even I don't like multi-tag team action, this is a match I enjoyed. Rating ***3/4

Elimination Chamber: The match that made all the hype about the PPV and delivered, giving us (at that time) something that we had never seen before, and I have to give Triple H credit for continuing the match with his legit crushed throat he got after a botched Frog Splash from Van Dam, also the Kane sending Jericho trough one of the pods and seeing Shawn Michaels winning the World Championship after his 4 year hiatus, gave a classic. Rating ****3/4

Movie Review: A Historic PPV, To Say the Least!
Summary: 4 Stars

Survivor Series 2002 is an absolutely historic PPV that is fondly remembered by wrestling fans, and with good reason. On this day in November of 2002, the WWE debuted their answer to WCW's phenomenal War Games concept- the Elimination Chamber. The gimmick match was an interesting concept, and was thankfully executed to perfection by the six men in the main event. In my opinion, there has never been an Elimination Chamber match as good as this one.

1. Jeff Hardy, Bubba Ray Dudley, and Spike Dudley VS 3-Minute Warning, and Rico- A messy, sloppy, yet wild tables match. I personally didn't enjoy it too much, however if you are a fan of the gimmick, you might have. The crowd really got in to it, however, so it did it's job. ***

2. Jamie Noble VS Billy Kidman- The best of the cruiserweight division from 2002 WWE, which isn't saying much. However, to their credit, they did put on a stellar match. Not the best I've seen from either guy (especially Noble- check out his stuff in ROH as James Gibson) but it was still very solid. An enjoyable filler match. **3/4

3. Victoria VS Trish Stratus- Mildly decent. *1/2

4. The Big Show VS Brock Lesnar- Without a doubt, the disappointment of the night. Coming off a marvelous fued with the Undertaker, Brock had tons of momentum, and yet they kill it by having him lose to the Big Show in less than five minutes. Absolute garbage. 1/2*

5. Los Guerreros VS Edge and Rey Mysterio, Jr. VS Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit- A truly masterful match. This goes to show you how amazing the tag team division in Smackdown was at around this time. It was absolutely awesome...all three teams gave it their all. If it weren't for the main event, this would have easily been match of the night. ****1/2

6. The Elimination Chamber Match- Triple H VS Shawn Michaels VS Booker T VS Kane VS Rob Van Dam VS Chris Jericho- Let's break down each guy here;
Kane- Boy, do I miss the old Kane. This was when he was actually looking like a true monster.
Chris Jericho- Jericho was at the top of his game here. Absolutely hilarious throughout the entire match. Extremely entertaining.
Booker T- Very entertaining style about him. He was booked very well around this time.
Rob Van Dam- One of the most underrated guys of all time. Had tons of charisma, and an extremely entertaining, unorthodox style to him. In my mind, he should have been champion in 2002.
Shawn Michaels- Just coming off an incredible return here.
Triple H- A very good heel champion at this point.
Put them all together, and you have a truly marvelous match. It was brutal, bloody, and lived up to all expectations. Phenomenal selling by all six guys, too. Great storytelling, and booking, as well. A truly great match- one of my favorite gimmick matches of all time. ****3/4

Overall- This was, as I've said before, a very memorable PPV. It had an absolutely amazing double main event, an above average opener, and a solid undercard. The only absolute garbage of the night was a match that was less than five minutes long. A recommended PPV.

8.5/10

Movie Review: Survivor Series 2002
Summary: 5 Stars

This as one of the greatest Survivor Series of all time. With plenty of elimination matches but none of the traditional one that Survivor Series is famous for. But this was one of the greatest and most exciting ppv's of all time.

6 Man Elimination Tables Match
Bubba Ray, Spike Dudley, and Jeff Hardy vs. 3 Minute Warning and Rico
This match was one of the most exciting tables matches i have ever seen. The crowd was great and there were plenty of tables. around 7 or 8. But this match is more famous for D Von coming out to save Bubba Ray and the Dudley Boyz reunite. 8.5/10

Cruiserweight Championship Match
Jamie Noble vs. Billy Kidman
This was a tremendous cruiserweight bout. Jamie Noble was on a 6 or 7 month reign as champion. And this had a lot of high flying and high impact moves. Including one of the greatest ddt's of all time. But Billy Kidman brought hi shooting star press to capture the title. 7.5/10

Hardcore Match for the Women's Championship
Trish Stratus vs. Victoria
This was a good hardcore match for the women. Some good moments here and there. But Victoria character at the time was very entertaining which made the match better and she would win the title. 6/10

WWE Championship Match
Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show
This was a great match but a little to short. But very entertaining the crowd was pro Brock. This was the first match between the two in a great rivalry. Brock Lesnar had a broken rib this night. And was able to suplex and give the greatest F-5 of all time. But Paul Heyman would screw Brock and Big Show would win the title. Which is awesome but to bad he had a short title reign. 8/10

Triple Threat Elimination for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Edge and Rey Mysterio vs. Los Guerrero's vs. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit
This match was the best match as far as wrestling and entertainment goes. Perhaps the greatest tag team Angle and Benoit would be eliminated first. And in an upset of sorts Chavo and Eddie would win the titles. 10/10

Christopher Nowinski and Matt Hardy would com out and bash the New York City crowd. But the sirens hit and it was the debut of Scott Steiner. And he would clean house. And fans were cheering for him to bad he absolutely sucks. But a good debut.

Eric Bishoff would then come out to the Elimination Chamber and explain rules.

1st Elimination Chamber for the World Heavyweight Championship
Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Kane vs. Booker T
This was the first and best Elimination Chamber of all time. Spectacular showing by everybody. This was also the second match in HBK return. And he would win the title but had a short title reign. Tremendous and brutal match. 10/10

This PPV was fantastic it scored 50/60 which means this is an A-. And that is fantastic.
