Movie Review: Not what you think

What a disappointing surprise. I was so excited to find this item because we love Laurie's music. However, this video is terrible. It looks like it was made in someone's garage and the sound is aweful. I wouldn't even try to sell it or give it to someone, I just threw it out. I didn't want to give it even one star, but I had to. A total waste of money. The CD's are much better. The new DVD, We Are The Laurie Berkner Band was a big disappointment also. It was very lame and not many songs either. Her videos on Noggin are much better. We've had Laurie's Video Songbook since it came out, and it's a cute video of concert style performances surrounded by a songbook.
But if parents are looking for videos like the ones on Noggin I strongly recommend "We Are the Laurie Berkner Band." It just came out on Valentines Day (2006), and is really really good! They really did a good job of picking Laurie's best songs and making cute, simple videos to them that are a lot like what we've been watching on Noggin. The whole band is very expressive and my kids loved that there were other kids dancing in the videos. Plus there's a new song that old and new fans will appreciate. And the DVD format lets parents pick and choose videos (not that we find ourselves skipping any) and watch bonus material like learning the choreography to "Moon Moon." "We Are the Laurie Berkner Band" was a great buy that we will watch over and over again.
Movie Review: Don't waste your money

I love Laurie Berkner and have thoroughly enjoyed what I've seen of her on Noggin. This video was a HUGE disappointment. The sound is bad, the videography is worse, and the special effects are awful. I truly wish I hadn't wasted my money on this one. Don't waste yours. Movie Review: The best - hands down!

When my children received an Amazon gift certificate for Christmas I immediately thought of this video. Then I read some of the previous reviews about inappropriate attire and the "book" on the screen. I also read the other reviews that dismissed the clothing and screen view. I was really torn between listening to someone else and knowing that my 4 year old daughter LOVES Laurie now and has since she was 2. I finally decided to make the purchase with the thought that "It's not too much, even if she hates it; maybe my son will like it (he's 1 now)." Abi ADORES this video. We watch it every night before she goes to bed - singing, dancing and giggling the entire time. It may very well be the best money I ever spent on her. Children don't care that the screen looks like a book or that there's this guy that just "appears" sometimes. They care that their beloved Laurie is singing their favorite songs whenever they'd like. I'm thrilled with our purchase and I would highly recommend the tape to any other parent whose child is a fan of Laurie's. Movie Review: Unwatchable!

My son LOVES Laurie Berkner videos on Noggin. This is NOTHING like it. It's not enjoyable at all. The sound is terrible. It crackles and buzzes on all VCR's I have tried. The picture quality is horrible as well. Horrible. Wish I could have given it zero stars ... and get my money back!

If they started passing out prizes to kids' musicians who keep it simple, Laurie Berkner would have a closetful. Her pared-down acoustic songs, with their goofball lyrics and fizzy delivery, have won her a cult following of 2- to 6-year-olds in New York. She's also taken her live show shtick (involving stuffed-animal festooned hairdos) national, performing on the Today show and at the White House. For her first foray into video, she follows the same homespun strategy. Laurie Berkner's Video Songbook is little more than a concert framed in an onscreen storybook. It culls the fan favorites ("Victor Vito" and "We Are the Dinosaurs" among them, plus some new songs) and pairs them with simple animation and whiz-bang inter-song vignettes. For a low-budget flick, a lot is being offered here.
