I REMEMBER SEEING THIS MOVIE IN THE THEATER, IT WAS SO MUCH FUN...I HAVE WATCHED IT SEVERAL TIMES SINCE ON VHS AND DVD...BUT NOW THE BLU-RAY...SINCE MOST OF THE FILM IS IN BLACK AND WHITE THE BLU-RAY'S UPGRADE IS NOTICEABLE BUT REALLY STANDS OUT ON THE FEW SONGS THAT ARE IN COLOR...THE VAST IMPROVEMENT IS IN THE SOUND...DO I THINK IT IS WORTH THE UPGRADE...H*LL YEA!!!!

I ignored Rattle and Hum when it was initially released. I liked U2 well enough but just didn't think I'd be interested in a concert film. Fast forward through time and many albums. All that Cant' Be Left Behind caught hold of me in particular the song Beautiful Day. I started delving into more of their art. Rattle and Hum was a free selection for purchasing an HD DVD drive for my Xbox 360. I was deeply moved by the way the band was captured in this film, how their songs were framed, their wonderful musical journey and overall how compelling each performance was. I recommend that you rent it. Watch it. Buy it and watch it over and over. You won't be dissappointed.

Movie Review: Improved audio
Summary: 4 Stars

I've found that it's the concerts on video that I most often watch nowadays. Always enjoyed this disk on DVD and naturally wanted to upgrade to Blu-Ray. If you have a killer sound system that supports DTS audio you're going to love the improvment. Can't say the video is much improved since this was shot way back in 1988. I'm watching on a 60" Pioneer Plasma and don't see all that much difference. Go for the sound if you have the equipment for it.

Rattle and Hum is not a film for anyone looking for an introduction to Irish band U2's career in the 1980s, but it is a vibrant portrait of an established group making its musical pilgrimage through the America it has always imagined through blues, gospel, and early rock 'n' roll. Filmmaker Phil Joanou (Heaven's Prisoners), a veteran music-video director and maker of the distractingly kinetic Three O'Clock High, finds a suitable outlet for his high energy in this juggernaut of a journey, which finds U2 collaborating with a black gospel choir and B.B. King, recording inside the legendary Sun Records studio, dropping by Graceland, and in a moment of fearlessness, performing the Beatles' "Helter Skelter" to exorcise Charles Manson's sick claim on the song. --Tom Keogh
