Movie Review: Brings back old memories

The thing I love about Amazon is that I can find 99% of the old movies I once enjoyed and thought were lost forever.
This movie was one I wanted to see again and was so happy to find it. It is a "feel good" kind of movie, has a great cast and we enjoyed watching it.

This is a wonderful film from top to bottom. Perfect cast and compelling story without anything getting blown up or cheating on their spouse.
This is a story of a family of movers in Australia and their lives as they move from job to job. They have some small adventures and ups and downs but its just a nice story about people who care about each other
Movie Review: One Of The Great Family Films

I'm sure everybody has written about the setting, the story, and the stars. I'll just limit myself to the fact that every once in awhile hollywood stumbles and whines and staggers its way into doing every element of a motion picture right and it happened here in spades. It is perfect. And few films are. Enjoy it with your loved ones and share something special. This was my late Mother's all time favorite film and I enjoyed it when I was ten, and twenty, and thirty, and fifty, and now almost 70 and each decade has brought something new to my appreciation of the work of art it is. I sincerely hope the cast and crew and especially Fred Zinnemann knew what they had accomplished with their little film. Summary of The Sundowners (Special Edition) [VHS]
An episodic account of a family of roving sheepherders in Australia. Paddy Carmody (Robert Mitchum) loves being "someone whose home is where the sun goes down," but his wife (Deborah Kerr) and teenage son are tired of the nomadic life and want to settle down. Director Fred Zinnemann (From Here to Eternity) takes a wonderfully laid-back approach to this likable material, emphasizing the refreshingly grown-up relationship between Mitchum and Kerr as well as the stark scenic attractions of Australia--a continent that, in 1960, was still unfamiliar terrain for the movies. Puckish, portly Peter Ustinov provides the lion's share of the comic relief. One of the high points is a sheep-shearing sequence (the normally self-assured Mitchum was so nervous about accidentally harming an animal that he required a few bottles of beer for fortification before shooting the scene). The Sundowners scored five Oscar nominations, including acting nods for Kerr and Glynis Johns, but won none. --Robert HortonStarting Over Video
