Movie Review: For Jodorowsky completists only....
Summary: 3 Stars
This is the last film that Alejandro Jodorowsky finished. Hopefully, it's not his last one, but it is a decent film and not nearly as bad as many have suggested it is. Despite being a director for hire on this, there are still enough Jodorowsky visual touches here to make it worth seeing, especially for Jodorowsky fans. O'Toole and Shariff (in their only other film together. The other film was Lawrence of Arabia) are very good here, there are some great surreal touches in the film (especially a night scene at a carnival and the opening dinner scene), and overall it's very watchable and not boring. It's a very hard film to find (the VHS copy is out of print, and there is no official DVD anywhere in the world), but if you're a Jodorowsky fan, you should find it. It's not a great film, just an interesting, minor one. Movie Review: Why not on DVD?

I love Omar Sharif.He is an incredibly gifted and talented actor.
Peter O'Toole seems to be getting a bit old but still plays ok.
Christopher Lee is as good as ever.Love his crazy party....
The music is something in itself.
I always thought that the soundtracks in J's movies do not get enough credit or many people don't seem to realize the greatness of the compositions and orchestrations.It always seems to even enhance the visuals and to tell the story additionally from another angle.
The story lacks maybe a bit ( compared to some of his earlier stuff..) but nevertheless it's another movie after nearly 20 years.
That alone ist reason to enjoy.
The setting is beautiful and I think by moving to Poland he made that movie more interesting than it might otherwise be.
It's an interesting alternative to the landscapes of Mexico.
Check out Jodorowsky's books although they are not available in english at this point,only in spanish/french/german..
They are REALLY great and show more of his genius.
A rare gem for sure and I just hope that he will still go on and create more movies and books.
Please release this movie also on DVD someday!

This was Alexandro Jodorowsky's first time in over 20 years of filmaking that he made a movie that he didn't write, which is obvious. The weirdest things in the movie is seeing Peter O'toole petting a stuffed dog and the late Christopher Lee surrounded by a bevy of sexy ladies in g-strings. Anyway, the movie is pretty good, visually. It's shot in Poland, which is also a stretch for Jodorowsky, who's utilized his homeland of Mexico for his other films. Omar Sharrif and O'toole reside in a sewer under a strange capetown,Sharrif as O'toole's "servant", while they wait out Lee's death so O'toole can collect inheritance money coming his way (or so he thinks!) Unfortunately, that's pretty much the plot, and there is little action, interesting dialog, or solid character developments (especially on O'toole's part), even though this is a fine film and a must for die-hard Jodorowsky fans. - Billy Sides
