Movie Review: The Taming of the Shrew
Summary: 5 Stars
An hilarious comedy with a brilliant cast. Taylor and Burton work so well together. It is a pleasure to watch them and the rest of this superb cast bring a wonderful Shakespeare comedy to life. I highly recommend it.Movie Review: A Fine Adaptation Of The Play To Screen

There are 2 good reasons to view this film. First it is one of the best movies that Taylor and Burton made together and they absolutely dominate the film. Burton in particular is very at home performing Shakespeare and seems to be relishing his role in every scene. Taylor also does incredibly well and the chemistry between them on screen should not be missed by anyone who loves good acting and film history. The color and settings are brilliant. Zefferelli's direction is spot on.
The 2nd reason is that this film is one of the better adaptations of Shakespeare to screen ever made. While there are some creative liberties taken with the play they all work for me and I find the film enjoyable in it's own right.

Summary of Taming of the Shrew [VHS]
Liz and Dick (a.k.a. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton) almost seemed to be importing the psychodramas of their marriage into this 1967 film (of course, the same was true of every film they made together). Adapted from Shakespeare's play and directed by Franco Zeffirelli (Romeo and Juliet) with his usual eye for sumptuousness, this version of Taming features a particularly boisterous, bawdy, fun performance by its stars. Composer Nino Rota--best known for scoring several of Fellini's best-known works--received a National Board of Reviews award for his vivid soundtrack. --Tom KeoghComedy Video
