VHS Movie Reviews of Strangers in Good CompanyMovie Review: classic Summary: 5 StarsI loved this movie. There is something very classic about it. An odd collection of seven women who really didn't know each other...setting out in an old school bus, travelling on what was to be a days adventure to a beautiful forgotten place...end up on what seems to be a life's journey in reflection.
The story is given so subtly, so gently...each woman reveals herself, her past, present and future to the other and wonderful friendships ensue.
I could watch this again and again. Parts of it made me laugh - Michelle's singing, Alice's fish adventures...and parts of it made me sad...Constance's fear of dying, Cissy recounting the war. There is so much heartfelt story to discover in this movie with the characters and it is indeed enchanting and eloquent. A beautiful movie.
Movie Review: exceptional movie Summary: 5 StarsA must see movie! No sex, violence or profanity! How refreshing. You will be sad to have the movie end.
Movie Review: For A Womans Perspective Summary: 5 StarsSaw This Movie Years Ago And Knew I Wanted It For My Collection One Day.It Gives A Great And Diverse Perspective Of Women From All Different Types Of Personalities And Ages.Somewhat Funny And Somewhat Sad.
All In All A Great Movie For Women Of All Ages!!
Movie Review: Agelessness Summary: 5 StarsI loved everything about this movie. It wasn't a thriller, or a mystery, or a sexy comedy. It was a movie about life - enjoying it, savoring it, fearing the end of it, recalling the good and bad times. It is a reminder to younger people that when a person is 40 or 50 or 60 or more, our feelings and ideas don't stop. We still want love and affection. And in our minds we are still 20 years old, in love, with our whole lives ahead of us. It is as much a shock to us as to the young people in our lives when we look in a mirror and see the wrinkles and grey hair our experiences have given us.
The casting was perfect on the movie and it touched my heart.
Movie Review: Strangers In Good Company Summary: 5 StarsI bought the DVD, held great memories from when I first saw this movie. A pleasure to watch - because you get a glimpse of the real lives of these women. Simplicity and human nature at it's best. I had my teenages watching this they had mixed thoughts both came away with an appreciation of Elderly people having youthful lives, aspirations and fears. Watch it and make your own choice!
Summary of Strangers in Good CompanyThis touching, 1991 Canadian film directed by Cynthia Scott takes the unusual step of casting nonprofessional actors, and the gamble pays off very well indeed. The story concerns eight elderly women whose tour bus breaks down driving through the wilderness. While waiting to be rescued, they find an abandoned house and look for food. The days and nights they end up spending away from civilization prove restorative to their spirits as each character gets an opportunity to tell her life story. The ensemble cast, as it turns out, essentially plays themselves in the film: the tales they tell are truly their own. A very talky, slowly paced production, it's best to get into the gentle rhythm of Scott's design and let the experience flow in the same way it does for the performers. --Tom Keogh
