Anamophic widescreen fans should avoid this version . I mistakenly bought this disc : It is in a matted 1.78 aspect ratio format within a 1.33 frame .Instead I should have bought the 2 disc Special Edition version which I understand is in proper anamorphic widescreen but the downside is that it is alomst twice the price !!!Movie Review: Classic Mel Brooks movie

The classic "combing the planet" scene has stuck in my head since I first seen it on VHS as a kid. I have watched it numerous times through the years and always loved it. Recently I have found my son watching and rewatching it, also loving it! Some movies truly live forever. I had to pick this up when it was $2 during the Black Friday week sales on here.Movie Review: Delightfully loony!

The FUNNIEST movie ever made! In my opinion. But I gotta say, you'll "get it" only if your brand of humor tends toward the ludicrous and you are at least somewhat familiar with Star Wars. If you are also familiar with Star Trek and the original "Planet of the Apes", you'll "get it" 100%. And that's why I was reduced to helpless mirth while watching this gem of lunacy. Some unforgettable highlights (if you can call them that): 1)The Druish Princess and her out-size hair-dryer. 2)The unlisted wall. 3) The Winnebago Space Ship. Summary of Spaceballs [VHS]
Mel Brooks's 1987 parody of the Star Wars trilogy is a jumble of jokes rather than a comic feature, and, predictably, some of those jokes work better than others. The cast, including Brooks in two roles, more or less mimics the principal characters from George Lucas's famous story line, and the director certainly gets a boost from new allies (SCTV graduates Rick Moranis and John Candy) as well as old ones (Dick Van Patten, Dom DeLuise). Watch this and wait for the sporadic inspiration--but don't be surprised if you find yourself yearning for those years when Brooks was a more complete filmmaker (Young Frankenstein). --Tom KeoghComedy Video
