There is no greater telling of the story of Bernadette Soubirous and Our Lady of Lourdes. A classic which will never be surpassed. Future movie makers may tell the story in a different or more dramatic way, but no one will make a greater film than this. I was trying to get a Catholic DVD collection at home, so I bought this movie. The movie seems fairly well done for it's time. Obviously the technology used doesn't match what we have today. I'm still unsure whether this movie puts a more negative shadow on the priest who tries to question Bernadette's visions than what really happened. Movie Review: Beautiful Bernadette

The Beautiful Benadette is a classic movie of the highest caliber. I received the feelings she felt and endured as I watched the Song of Bernadette over and over. I named my only daughter after Bernadette, as a tribute to what this Saint faithfully received from our Holy Mother, and then shared with the rest of the world. Thank you for sharing the Song of Bernadette with all who are faithful followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Summary of Song of Bernadette [VHS]
Jennifer Jones plays the legendary French peasant who claimed to have dialogues with the Virgin Mary at a Lourdes grotto in 1858. The script handles the visitations as an article of truth (Linda Darnell plays the Virgin), which helps move the drama forward, though much of the story concerns the conflicts that arise in the community after Jones is told the grotto contains healing waters. Made by Henry King (The Snows of Kilimanjaro), the film is gorgeous to look at and sensitively directed; and Jones (who won an Oscar for Best Actress) is radiant in the lead. Whatever one's religious persuasion, this is a strikingly handsome Hollywood production to be enjoyed. The film also earned Academy Awards for cinematography and score. --Tom KeoghRedemption Video
