Movie Review: A Valuable Item For The Kids
Summary: 4 Stars

Like most of Sesame Street releases, "The Alphabet Jungle Game" is sufficiently entertaining for kids to hold their attention for the duration of the video. This DVD seems to have yielded the right results from my two kids. The video is actually a compilation of various video clips of letter lessons that have been produced over the course of many years. If there was something that could have been improved I would say that the sound of the letters could have been emphasized. Most of the letter lessons were just used in word examples. The lessons work but I have a feeling that an emphasis on phonetics would have shortened the learning process. Hence the one-star deduction.

This is a cute DVD, but doesn't seem to hold my son's interest. Some of the images for the letters are a bit odd, and the material on the DVD itself seems pretty dated. We like the Leap Frog letter factory much better, even though we're big Sesame St. fans in our house!

My 19 month old seems to like parts of this video and I have a feeling he'll be more engaged with it as he gets older. The music is fun and he likes to dance with it. If you don't mind a little (or a lot) of Elmo, the adults will be ok with this video too. Some of you know what I mean...

Summary of Sesame Street - The Alphabet Jungle Game [VHS]

The sharp minds at the Children's Television Workshop have found a clever way to recycle their "letter of the day" animated shorts and entertainingly educate the youngsters. Elmo, Zoe, and Telly--along with three kids, of course--host this delightful a-to-y cartoonathon. (The missing z is part of the "plot.") The shorts are sandwiched between the catchy "Alphabet Jungle" song and the mesmerizing "African Animal Alphabet," which should get those little couch potatoes up and boogying down to the jungle beat. Adults within earshot may even find themselves indulging in a little toe-tapping. --Kimberly Heinrichs
