VHS Movie Reviews of My Favorite MartianMovie Review: Silly- but funny! Summary: 4 StarsI can't believe that I laughed so much at this bit of fluff! When My Favorite Martian came on the T.V. and my daughter wanted to watch it, I groaned and focused my attention on my computer. Then she started laughing-then I noticed that 'Uncle Martan' was played by Christopher Loyd(sp)-before I knew it I was watching this silly, funny movie and couldn't stop. I won't go into details about the humor-I'll just say it's a great family movie that even an old foggie like me can enjoy!
Movie Review: great old series Summary: 5 Starsgreat old series to watch. the show was back in the time when the crude chokes of today wolud not be allowed but the show still turns out to be hilarious.
Movie Review: Good, But Not Very-Good, 3.5 Stars. Summary: 3 StarsIt emphasizes gags over story, and it misses the point. The mutating chewing-gum, the talking suit, the shrinking ray, and so on. But none of these are developed or closely tied to the story. They would have done better with less gags and better character and story development. It is still worth watching once or twice on it's silly entertainment value.
Movie Review: My favorite martian... Summary: 1 StarsA stupid movie that could have been something worth watching. First there is a bit of nudity in the first 20 minutes and the rest of the dialogue is lacking for what is suppose to be childrens/family movie. Disney missed it with this one.
Movie Review: Lousy Summary: 1 StarsI had great expectations about this film. I used to watch My Favorite Martian on TV when I was a kid, and it was one of my favourite shows.
Well, in the movie they totally destroyed Uncle Martin's (Watson) and
Tim O'Hara (Bixby) characters. There is no tenderness, wisdom between them, only uncontrolled lunacy.
The martian in this version is annoying, at best. The comic relief, the suit calle "Zoot", is obnoxious and not funny at all. There is no humour, only stale jokes and bodily noises (when will they stop using things like this?).
Dismal adaptation!
Summary of My Favorite MartianTired but watchable adaptation of the popular '60s TV show of a friendly Martian who lives with an agreeable earthling. Like Disney's other live-action remakes 101?Dalmatians and Flubber, the emphasis is on quick-moving scenes and special effects--not character. Jeff Daniels is the bemused earthling who gets to know Christopher Lloyd's alien ways. Much of the film feels like a retread borrowing heavily from other sci-fi comedies (and "fish out of water" films), including Lloyd's own Back to the Future. Lloyd and his talking space suit (voiced by Wayne Knight who brings the same personality as his Newman role on Seinfeld) don't know simple Earth customs but inexplicably know every pop culture reference in the last 10?years. Daryl Hannah and Elizabeth Hurley are along for the ride as Daniels's good-girl and bad-girl flames. TV's Martian, Ray Waltson, shows up as a secret agent alien hunter--and pours more emotion into his scenes than the rest of the movie combined. Ages 6 and up. --Doug Thomas
