Movie Review: Another slasher from the great 80's

In the town of Valentines Bluff, the towns people are trying to move on and forget about their dark secret. A killer use to reappear on Valentines Day to kill the people who try to celebrate the day by throwing a party. 20 years have passed and the murders have begun again. The towns mayor begins to panic when he gets a valentine box of chocolates packed with a real bleeding heart instead.
My Bloody Valentine debut in 1981 when the slasher was beginning to gain some momentum. And even then, this movie had the fingerprints of several that came before it. Despite this, it really isn't that bad and is a pretty decent slasher.
The kills could have been alot better even for its time. Films like The Prowler which came out the same year proved you can push the envelope alot. The acting was very solid to me. And the characters had some fun personalities, I actually pulled out a six pack because of the characters. I found the plot to be pretty good even though a bit predictable. It has a nice set up and the soundtrack is pretty good.
I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this movie. Since I'm not that very big on gore and I'm more character oriented, plus I love a coherent plot. In which this does delivers. I'm satisfied with this now and I was then. I mainly recommend this to slasher buffs.
Also on a side note. There is a remake for this movie due out in January of 09. Now think about this. The movie is about Valentines Day murders but it's coming out in January. I don't know about you people. But to me, that's a bad omen.
Movie Review: Yet another holiday horror movie

It's all John Carpenter's fault. Following the success of "Halloween", everyone wanted to jump on the band wagon and as a result, the horrors fans of this world were offered a horror movie for every occasion: "Friday the 13th", "April Fool's Day", "Graduation Day", "Happy Birthday to Me" etc. "My Bloody Valentine" is the Valentine's Day horror movie. In this film, someone is killing the residents of a small mining town because they want to hold a Valentine's Day dance on the anniversary of a mining accident and a massacre that occurred around 20 years earlier. If you've seen any of the "Friday the 13th" films, then there's not much new here, but if that's the sort of thing that you like, then this film isn't too bad, although there aren't any real scares in it. The ending is left open for a sequel, but presumably this film wasn't all that successful at the time it was made, because as far as I am aware there wasn't a "My Bloody Valentine 2".Movie Review: My Bloody Valentine

My husband and I were undecided between 2 and 3 stars. Back in it's day I would give it a strong 3 stars. Seeing it now for the first time, I don't know. It starts off a little hokey but then it picks up quite nicely. There are some funny moments. A wee bit of suspense. Not too much gore. The mine makes for good scary movie scenery. Worth the rental.

Summary of My Bloody Valentine
This bizarre little horror movie is set in the mining town of Valentine Bluffs, which may be in Canada, though the odd, indeterminate accents of the cast are perhaps meant to suggest that it is truly a regionless everyland. In a cruel twist of fate, the Bluffers have not celebrated Valentine's Day in 20 years due to a terrible mining accident. This year is to be the first return of the Valentine's Dance--repeatedly described by adults as the biggest event of the year--but someone (or something?) is trying to put a stop to the fun by delivering heart-shaped candy boxes with real hearts in them. The dance is called off in the name of public safety, the young (well, youngish) people decide to hold a party inside the mine instead, and if you think we're getting out of this one without someone getting a pickax through the chest, you have no business watching slasher movies. --Ali DavisGeneral Video
