Movie Review: The Mirror Crack'd From Side to Side
Summary: 5 Stars

An earlier version of this movie "The Mirror Crack'd (1980) ASIN: 6302990149" was made with a lot of glitzy characters. Some of them were quite good such as Rock Hudson (Jason Rudd). Others were distracting as they let their real personalities overwhelm the characters. One of the worst was Angela Lansbury's portrayal of Miss Jane Marple; she was much too cutesy. This film was to Americanize (black and white, judgmental.) and half the characters were combined for brevity.

Based on a novel, Christie, "Agatha. Mirror Crack'd, The", the film Miss Marple: The Mirror Crack'd From Side to Side (1992) (TV) (UK: series title) stays true to form. Joan Hickson is Miss Marple. Agatha Christie always considered her as the ideal Miss Marple; she shows this through her reserve savvy. Jane takes an interactive interest in the mystery and yet each character as part of the discovery, stands on their own. The ending of the story is as is in life, it is appropriate not black and white judgmental.

Movie Review: Good but not great
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a good Agatha Christie movie but it pales to the film of the same name starring Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson. This story is hard to follow and it is difficult to keep track of who is trying to harm who. However, the performance are good enough to keep the plot moving.

Summary of Miss Marple: Mirror Cracked From Side to Side

Joan Hickson stars as Agatha Christie's most beloved character, the prim and proper Miss Marple, in this classic whodunit. There is great excitement in the village of St. Mary Mead American movie star Marina Gregg is in town with her husband to shoot a new film. At her new home, Gossington Hall, Marina hosts an annual fete and invites the entire village. It is there that Heather Babcock inadvertently drinks a poisoned cocktail intended for Marina. Then another killing occurs. Miss Marple soon uncovers deadly jealousies among the cast and crew that puts her hot on the trail of the killer. And Miss Marple's script does not call for anyone getting away with murder.
When Marina Gregg, the famous movie star, arrives from America, she finds herself starring in more than just a movie. She's also the main character in her very own murder plot! Marina and her husband decide to stay at the posh and extravagant Gossington Hall, where they continue the tradition of hosting an annual summer garden party for the entire village. Unfortunately, at the fete Heather Badock, a friend of Marina's, drinks a poisoned cocktail that is intended for Marina. Gasp and horror! Lucky for Marina that she's staying in the very same village where Miss Marple resides. It seems that jealousies are as rampant as a contagious disease among the movie stars and film crew, and it's over to Miss Marple to take the director's chair of this particular script and find out how the story will end. --Samantha Allen Storey
