VHS Movie Reviews of Lethal Weapon 2 (Director's Cut)Movie Review: Great Entertainment Summary: 5 StarsI have all of the Lethal Weapon movies & they're all great! Action packed movies that will make you laugh, make you cry & keep you on the edge of your seat. Mel Gibson & Danny Glover are both great actors that work magnificently together & seem to have a great working relationship. I don't think that a better duo could've been chosen for this series of movies! They go together like peanut butter & jelly. I'm so glad that these two played in all the movie sequals. It just wouldn't have had the same effect if Gibson & Glover hadn't returned to their roles that they made their own in all the Lethal Weapon movies. These two are definately irreplacable! I highly recommend these movies to anyone & everyone who wants to enjoy a great movie experience. The Lethal Weapon movies are classics in my book.I never get tired of watching them! Where most movie sequals aren't as good as the origional, you won't find that with these movies - they're all great!
Movie Review: Going After the South African Bad Guys Summary: 4 StarsDo you like lots of violence, steamy scenes, and going beyond police duties to get even with the bad guys? Then this movie is for you. The white South Africans are the bad guys. They dodge anti-apartheid protests, pay for drug deals with Krugerrands, hide behind their diplomatic immunities to avoid police action, and then bump off the police investigators one by one. One investigator's wife is murdered. Another investigator dies when jumping off a diving board that blows up. Still another must remain seated on a toilet bowl to which a bomb has been wired. Finally, the South African bad guys intend to escape on a ship that is about to leave port. So the drama continues...
Movie Review: Wonderful movie but not good transfer to Blu-ray Summary: 3 StarsFirst of all, I love this movie. The first two Leathal Weapon movies are so good. It is so much fun to watch the two very different main characters work together. The movie is a bit dated, but not much, and it is wonderful to see it again, I haven't seen it in over 15 years.
Now for the Blu-ray itself. I can't say that I am impressed at all. If I was to rate just the picture I would give it two stars. I use a 40' Sony KDL-40W2000, a Denon AVR-2803 and a PS3, such equipment isn't exactly high end. There are very clear evidence of the picture being encoded in 1080i (interlaced) and not progressive. There are so many times that I can clearly see empty line in between the lines in the picture. An example is the scene in the grocery store when Riggs meets miss van den Haas and they are standing at each end of the fruit stand. I could very clearly see lines in the price tags. Another example is the end credits sequence where the letters were very edgy. There are so many other example of this.
The sound, though, is quite good, for a late 80s movie. I thought, though, that the sound on the first Leathal Weapon on Blu-ray was a tad better.
So despite of the picture I will keep it, since I don't have it in any other format. But if you have the movie on DVD I would wait and hope for a better version to come out on Blu-ray.
Movie Review: more fun and mayhem with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover(and Joe Pesci) Summary: 4 Starsto me,this is a better movie than the first one.it's got much more
action,it's more exciting,and faster paced.it's also funnier.the
characters are better defined, and the storyline is better.i also think
this movie had a better villain than the first.this time, along with
Danny Glover and Mel Gibson,Joe Pesci is along for the ride, and
provides some laughs.also, there is more banter between Gibson and
Glover.the movie is just more compelling all around.the first one was a
bit slow at times, but not so with this one.for me,Lethal Weapon 2 is a
3.5/5
Movie Review: Not much difference Summary: 3 StarsNot much difference between standard DVD and Blu Ray version of this movie. For those of you looking to "build" Blu Ray collection, steer clear of some of the older stuff since it might not be worth the extra dollars, especially if you already own it on DVD and your player will upconvert it anyway!
Summary of Lethal Weapon 2 (Director's Cut)The series formula started to kick in with this immediate sequel to Lethal Weapon, but that doesn't necessarily make it a weak movie. Joe Pesci joins the fold, Richard Donner directs again, and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover return as LAPD partners, their relationship smoother now that Gibson's character has recovered from his maddening grief over his wife's death. But the reckless Mel and cautious Danny equation, good for a million laughs, settles into place in this story involving a South African smuggler and a new girlfriend (Patsy Kensit) for Gibson. The movie is hardly comfy, though. The last act gets nasty, and a climactic fight between Gibson (who gets the worst of it) and some high-kicking villain is ugly. --Tom Keogh
