Movie Review: Magnificent portrayal with suberb acting and a full range of emotions.
Summary: 5 Stars
Slyvia Kristel, wife of the disabled Lord who after a war injury is not able to have sex is devoted but restless. Lord suggests she take a lover.
Very needing love, she sees a farm hand washing himself fully naked and
has an organism being so struck. Later on they formally meet and start having regular encounters. Lord, seeing his wife less interested engages a medical therapist who becomes his dear friend and adoring companion.
Catching her after their first night together, he sends Kristel abroad
and fires her lover. Greatly lonely and in despair, she returns only to learn of the dismissal. Pregnant, she defies the lord, gives up her
position and finds her lover far off working at a dirty factory. They unite. Lord embraces his companion and closes the door on Krystal.
The nudity and love making enhance the movie and make it much more
realistic. The scenery is breath-taking and the sound track appropriate.
I am going to see the new Hands version and try to compare the two. Krystel's beauty is heavenly and spunk admirable. Excellent acting.

Movie Review: Lady Chatterly's Lover
Summary: 4 Stars
This version of Lady Chatterly's Lover is one of the better versions of D.H. Lawrence's novel. It was a little long (over 2 hours) for my short attention span, but it is engaging and the protagonists are likeable. While it is a good adaptation, the relationships between the characters are different from the relationships in the novel. It's worth watching if you enjoy a good love story that's a bit dramatic. Movie Review: Nicely done.

I am a D.H. Lawrence fan, but I purposely didn't re-read the book just before seeing this, because I wanted to judge the film on its own merits. I was a bit unsure about the role being handed to Sylvia Kristel, but she showed she's more than just Emmanuelle eye candy; she can actually act, and the movie comes across very well as literature-with-small-L as well as erotica. With DANIELLE DARRIEUX, LEO GENN. Directed by MARC ALLEGRET. Based on the novel by D.H. LAWRENCE. For three decades, D.H. Lawrences notorious, scandalous novel was banned in the United States. While not as sexually explicit as would be allowed today, this adaptation is effectively subtle and literate as it explores the emotional state of its heroine. Still, when released theatrically, it sparked controversy on these shores if only for the seduction sequences, depiction of adultery and other assorted sexual innuendo. Lawrences novel is set during the 1920s, but director Marc Allegret (who also co-scripted) updated it to the 1950s. Danielle Darrieux, one of Frances all-time-great movie stars, is cast in the title role: Lady Chatterley (Constance), wife of Sir Clifford, whose legs were smashed by a shell during wartime and, as a result, has been paralyzed from the waist down. The beautiful Constance is satisfied to remain chaste and dutifully plays the role of her husbands nurse and companion. However, there is constant pressure to be unfaithful. "I realize you are fond of Clifford" one admirer tells her, "but you know nothing of love." Constance refuses to give in to this coercion, explaining that she dislikes deception and especially abhors being preyed upon by men who pity her for being wed to an invalid. Her feelings about adultery change when she becomes enamored of Mellors, the Chatterley estates muscular caretaker. With Mellors, all of her hidden sexual desires are allowed to come to the surface - but not without a host of complications. In French with English subtitles. 101 minutes.Back in the day when full-frontal nudity and soft-core eroticism were still part of the mainstream release strategy, Lady Chatterley's Lover made the rounds as a higher-toned slab of hubba-hubba. For this opus, Sylvia Kristel, the Dutch-born beauty who had bared all and gained a following in Emmanuelle, teamed up again with that film's director, Just Jaeckin,. Based on the once-scandalous D.H. Lawrence novel (and at least partly adapted by Marc Behm), Lady Chatterley casts Kristel as the wife of a paralyzed nobleman (former Hammer star Shane Briant). He can no longer make love to his sexy missus, and so gives his blessing to the idea of her having an affair--although the reality of the Lady getting it on with the manor's rough-hewn gamekeeper (Nicholas Clay) is not what he had in mind. The result is much closer to a bodice-ripping romance novel than to Lawrence (stick with Ken Russell's Women in Love for Lawrence erotica), and the sex scenes have the customary tropes of crackling fire and dancing in the rain. The sheer dullness of the production might be the price one must pay for getting to the hot parts, of which there are plenty. --Robert Horton
