VHS Movie Reviews of Killing Time (1998)Movie Review: Time waits for no man... Summary: 4 StarsI just watched Killing Time for the second time...not sure when I saw it the first time, but it seemed like a good way to kill some time before dinner, here in the hotel room.
A British crime drama, this movie tells the tale of a beautiful Italian assassin hired by a cop, to kill a mobster. The plan goes bad, when the cop can't afford the assassin, and the target is delayed on the train.
It's a small film, but well shot and well acted (by actors you've seen, but can't quite put your finger on their identities). Violent, though, so not for little kids. The plot isn't terribly complicated, and is somewhat predictable, but if you're watching this movie this isn't likely a terribly big deal to you.
And, that Italian assassin is damned efficient. I wouldn't want to come up against her. Ever.
Movie Review: Still the Hottest Cold-Blooded Killer Movie Summary: 5 StarsKendra Torgan is far more attractive than either Anne Parillaud (La Femme Nikita) or even Bridget Fonda (Point of No Return). It is a shame that she has not done any other films. As Maria, she is simply the hottest cold-blooded killer around. Speaking Italian through most of the film only adds to her mystery and allure. Her pistols do most of the talking for her. Admittedly she is not a well rounded killer. She does not seem to have any martial arts skills. Heck, she can't even do a push up. But she is gutsy, smart and not afraid to shoot first, then shoot again. There is just enough firepower to keep your blood pumping and no more. This movie does not need to resort to Hollywood explosions to keep people interested. No tricky storylines or cop-out Deus ex Machina endings in this movie. This story moves quickly and not a minute is wasted. The action and changes in moods are paced by a great soundtrack. All the original music and the alternative songs add a haunting beauty to the film. If you like the Female Assassin genre, this is a must see.
Movie Review: Cool assassin, boring story Summary: 3 StarsThis movie has a simple plot. The classy assassin was the only thing that saved this movie. The action scenes were alright but nothing too special. The story was believable but comes off as silly. The protagonist was not likeable or interesting. The antagonist was demented yet fascinating. The assassin performed her role well. She was cold-hearted and stealthy.
Movie Review: Even better than nikkita Summary: 5 StarsSeriously,If you liked la femme nikkita, like intense movies movies, strong female characters, and do not require lengthy dialogue, you won't find a better movie. Just get it, trust me.
Movie Review: Boring and Pretentious Summary: 2 StarsI really wanted to like this movie, but the script is awful, the acting is snooze-worthy, and the direction is half-baked. I guess this is an attempt to be a clever and droll British shoot-em-up flick, but it falls on its face through failing its too obvious aspirations. Bad pacing, inconsistent editing, and boring direction made a pretty flimsy plot look downright amateurish. It felt like some left-over film school obsession. We were laughing in all the wrong places. "Reilly," the oh-so-evil bad guy, was extremely silly and fake in his literati posing. The assassin woman was a pleasure to watch, and since she didn't speak English she wasn't afforded the burden of trying to pass of stupidities as clever English banter. The cops and their dialogue were totally contrived. The goon-killers were just plain stupid in their bickering, hastening fast-forwarding. This film wants to be a Terantino/Guy Ritchie flick so badly it fails. It has to get by on slow-motion styling to make it at all interesting. It begins and ends ludicrously, by the final scene I was fast-forwarding with prejudice.
