VHS Movie Reviews of House of DraculaMovie Review: Universal's Monster Finale Summary: 3 StarsErle C. Kenton directed this superior follow-up to "House of Frankenstein" and closed the lid on Universal's monster franchise. "House of Dracula" (1945) remains among the studio's better sequels, with effective gothic atmosphere and taut pacing. Onslow Stevens' sympathetic performance as the dedicated yet doomed Dr. Edelman holds the film together - memorably assisted by John Carradine's Dracula, Lon Chaney Jr.'s Wolf Man and (all too briefly) Glenn Strange's Frankenstein Monster. Due to budgetary shortcuts, the disappointing climax is mostly comprised of stock footage from 1942's "The Ghost of Frankenstein."
Movie Review: THE LAST OFFICIAL FRANKENSTEIN SEQUEL.........NOT! Summary: 4 StarsI know my rating for this film is higher than most would allow, but it does have it's charm and it is a film I hold dear to my heart. Growing up in the 60's you could not help but be a monster kid. The toy shelves, comic books, Saturday morning/late night TV horror shows and everywhere you looked seemed to be filled with images of my favorite monsters! Dracula, Frankenstein's monster,The Mummy, The Wolfman and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. 'House Of Frankenstein' is the last sequel in the Frankenstien series, but it really isn't! 'Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein' would come soon after. Why not count it as the last?.....it has all the same stars playing their definitive monsters and it actually reunites Bela Lugosi with the role that made him famous...Dracula! I believe this that is the last film in the series because the monster's all play it straight(They don't know it's a comedy). Another unoffical member of this series is 'The Wolfman' which shares 'Frankenstein meets the Wolfman' as it's sequel with 'Ghost of Frankenstein' It would only make sense to watch 'The Wolfman' before you watch 'Frankenstein meets the Wolfman'. That brings the total Frankentstein series to 9 films. It is a great series over all even though they stray far from the first two. Never the less my chilhood would not have been the same without them! I had to put this review on the VHS as this film never made it to DVD until it was released in the Dracula Legact set. The transfer is very good. Halloween is just around the corner.
Movie Review: House of Dracula Summary: 4 StarsThis film is a great film for Dracula fans! John Carradine played a great Count Dracula even though he is not seen as often as the other characters.
I am not sure why the The Wolfman was put in the film? The Frankenstein monster should have had a longer role because he was only shown for about 3 minutes. Overall this is very good film.
Movie Review: A Monster Menagerie... Summary: 5 StarsVarious legendary monsters are summoned by enterprising Dr. Edelman {Onslow Stevens} to develop "cures" for their conditions. Count Dracula arrives late on night as "Baron Latos" {John Carradine}, to undergo transfusion treatments*; and The Wolfman is to be neurologically injected with a wolvesbaine compound. Still, these creatures stay true to their natures, as Dracula seduces lovely blonde nurse Miliza during a moving rendition of Moonlight Sonata {the "music of My world" ~ Dracula}, and The Wolfman takes a suicidal leap off a cliff's edge hoping to end his lunar torment, but instead resides in the caves below the castle where Frankenstein's monster is discovered semi-submerged in the ruins, clutching his creator's skeleton.
After The Wolfman almost kills Dr. Edelman, they find the hidden chambers beneath the castle, and transport Frankenstein's creature back to the laboratory, where after a brief resuscitation attempt, decide against it, based on moralistic admonitions by hunchbacked nurse 'Nina', despite the overwhelming benefits to science and humankind this would engender.
Eventually, Dr. Edelman realizes the folly of inviting these darksome personages to the castle when he witnesses the slow somnambulism of nurse Meliza into Dracula's influence, and erroniously thinks he has been rid of this Prince of Darkness via a deceptive transfusion session, but his revenge is deeply ingrained into flesh and bone, as Edelman's mind is possessed of swirling visions of what he must now do, with Dracula's blood flowing in his veins - seems he himself was justifiably tricked into receiving vampire essence, which transforms him into a very Jeckyl & Hyde / Mad Scientist character, in which he murders a horse-driver and runs rampant at a local village, which causes the classically amusing 'villagers with torches and pitchforks' scene, but he manages to elude capture. He also began the successful resurrection of Frankenstein's creation, who is too quickly dispatched by the flame.
Meliza and a cured Wolfman fall in love, and hunchbacked Nina is de-humped, thus presenting a statuesque brunette beauty. John Carradine made for a curious, though always regal Count, and Frankenstein's monster is very nicely portrayed by Lon Chaney Jr., master monster man.
With shades of 'Mad Monster Party', House of Dracula contains several original monsters from cinematic arcana {with the exception of The Mummy and The Creature from The Black Lagoon} rolled into one film, mixed with an intriguing plot, Noir accoutrement, and gothically elegant environments, which is a most diabolically-pleasing combination.

* Brings to mind Dr. Hoffman's treatments for Barnabas Collins of Dark Shadows infamy.
Movie Review: What a good and a heck of shocking scary movie!!! Summary: 4 StarsThis was the 2nd Monster Mash movie between Dracula(John Carradine), Frankenstein(Glenn Strange) and The Wolf Man(Lon Chaney, Jr.). I was shock to death by this movie.
A vampire bat arrived at Dr. Eledman's for a cure to his vampirism, which is Baron Latos in reality is Count Dracula himself. Lawerance "Larry" Talbot AKA The Wolf Man also arrived for a cure to his lycantropy. The doctor did his research and explained to them. Dracula and Dr. Eledman do blood transfusions. Frankenstein was found in a cave buried in quicksand. Dr. Eledman wanted to revive Frankenstein, but was stopped by his asstiant. Dracula was attraction to a nurse. One night during blood transfusion, Dracula put his blood into the doc's. He went after his nurse, but Dr. Eledman destory Dracula by sunlight. Thanks to his blood transfused with Dracula's, he became a mad doctor. He killed a man driving and running crazy though the village while operating Larry's skull. He also tries to revive Frankenstein. As the arriving of the full moon, Larry got cured or is he? (According to Abbot & Costello meets Frankenstein) Dr. Eledman revive Frankenstein and was shot by Larry. Frankenstein went after Larry and the place got burned. The villaqers ran, as told by Larry. Larry and the nurse escape as Frankenstein dies in fire.
Good, but gotta get it on DVD!
