Simply one of the best chronicles of the white race in north America. Sadly, one of the few in existence.
Oppressed and forgotten, existing only in the bargain bin in your local Walmart, and of course, Amazon.
Sad, but true.
Oppressed, but still alive in the memory of those who are old enough to remember,
The few, the white, the mayonnaise race.

Movie Review: Still on the top of my list even after all these years

I'm a huge fan of the mockumentary format. Spinal Tap was good, but This was better. It's truly a shame that it's not more available and that more people aren't aware of it. Where's the Mayo? A hilarious look at white people in America. While this movie is an exaggerated comedy, growing up in a small city, I can tell you, its not far from the truth. If you like laughing at white people like myself, than this movie is for you.(I am a white person by the way----it's good to laugh at yourself once and a while)Movie Review: Stereotypes of White People...Who would have thought it?

While most might see this film as a joke, it is one of the first works to flesh out stereotypes of whites on screen. What is so unique is that for the first time someone is taking a critical, analytical view of whiteness. Usually white culture is taken to be "a priori", not something created by a group of people, but something appearing in the void with God. White culture has been treated as something that did not exist because white people just did things "the way they were."In this film Martin Mull, an excellent social critic "problematizes", as we say in academia, or "lifts up for discussion" as we say in the south, the ways and manners of middle class white people.
This is an excellent work to stimulate thinking in a course on media criticism.
I viewed it as I completed a book on media criticism using Star Trek as the object of investigation. I was so programmed to think of media stereotypes as applying only to people of colour that it did not occur to me until after I had published the book that whites are stereotyped in the media too.
This film is a predecessor of Jeff Foxworthy and King of the Hill. Great social commentary!
