Movie Review: Just so you know...
Summary: 5 Stars
Hiya, all you fellow early movie musical lovers! I'm the one who wrote the review for this movie on Oct. 29. Then, I didn't realize something about this movie that you all oughta know...IT'S ON DVD! And you can buy it for $9 or more, because it comes brand NEW on DVD in the Classic Musical 50 pack or in the Hollywood Musicals film pack with other goodies like Second Chorus, Royal Wedding, The Greeks Had a Word For Them, Moonlight Sonata, Doll Face, Manhattan Merry Go-Round and some other film(s) that I can't remember. So, I decided to save you from from spending $38 + on an old, tiresome VHS, when you can get a nice, new DVD with other films on it. But if you'd rather buy the VHS, go ahead, beacuse maybe you don't have a DVD player, you like the VHS format more, or you'd just like the film by itself. Ooooh, I almost forgot, the DVD quality isn't super-good, though. The picture can get fuzzed out and the sound can get all crackly. I hope you buy this lovely extravaganza in amy format, and share the nostalgic goodness of this picture with others. It's such a dream of a musical. I thought it was much better than AQUAMARINE, a DVD that was given to me that I thought was nice, but pale in comparison to the glamor and splendor of the old musicals Hollywood used to crank out. I'm so glad it's on DVD and VHS, so we can see it today. They should put Marilyn Miller's SALLY on DVD, too. Marilyn Miller is also in here, but she's not the star. 1. It's your only chance of seeing what the Ziegfeld Follies were REALLY like. I mean, Florenz Ziegfeld himself supervised the making of it! 2. Rudy Vallee is a darn good singer. 3. The story is captivating. 4. If you like the snap and energy of the 1920s, you'll love this movie. You can really wallow in the 1920s culture. 5. If one day it's rainy and there's nothing to do, this is a perfect film to brighten up your spirits. 6. The sets and costumes are very beautiful. 7. The music and lyrics are VERY catchy and can really get stuck in your head. 8. Eddie Cantor is TERRIBLY funny in his routine. 9. The dance routines are really cute and even better than the ones in The Broadway Melody. Why isn't this on DVD instead of that thing, which the only thing good about is it's MARVELOUS musical score. 10. Beacuse the Ziegfeld Follies is a part of American History and it's a shame that some people don't know it, which is shocking. Buy this movie and show it to people you know! SPREAD THE SPLENDOR AND GOODNESS OF THE ZIEGFELD EVERYWHERE!
