Movie Review: The Frisco Kid Summary: 5 StarsThis is the best comedy of all time. I dicovered it when it was released in theatres years ago. It certainly can stand the test of time. Jew or gentile, it is just funny.
Movie Review: Good movie, I guess Summary: 3 StarsI bought this movie as a gift for my uncle, so I am not sure how good this movie is. Sorry, that I couldn't help any.

Movie Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 StarsI am not sure how this movie rates as a comedy or pg. It isn't funny and it is full of foul language, including G** D*** and many other obscenities continuously throughout the movie. Our family loves comedy-westerns, Support Your Local Sheriff & Shakiest Gun in the West are 2 favorites, but this film doesn't even come close to the humor in either of those movies. Comedies should make you feel good and laugh - this movie has few laughing moments but many moments when the movie is serious and you are left feeling bad. Innocent Gene Wilder is beaten up in one scene and not in a humorous way - rather violently - punched, kicked and thrown in the dirt. He is scammed, robbed, etc. - none of these moments are humorous. His "friend", Harrison Ford, is a drinking, foul mouthed, bank robber who brags several times about his encounters with prostitutes using rather graphic non-pg words to explain these women. This is certainly not a movie for children. If you are looking for a fun comedy-western I would look elsewhere.
Summary of Frisco Kid [VHS]Gene Wilder takes his most unusual role, a naive 19th-century rabbi sent from his native Poland to the fledgling Jewish community in San Francisco, in this warm-hearted comic adventure. The trusting soul is easy prey for the con men and criminals who prey on the immigrants arriving in the Philadelphia port and the rabbi, beaten but unbowed, continues his trek West solo: broke, underequipped, and hopelessly lost. Harrison Ford, fresh from Star Wars, is the roguish outlaw who adopts the determined traveler and the two become unlikely friends as they make their way through one scrape after another. Wilder makes a sincere and sympathetic hero, his faith and courage seeing him through one crisis after another, and fresh-faced Ford makes an endearing scamp of a bank robber. The meandering adventure, overlong at two hours, takes its time as the duo traverses the gorgeous American countryside and end up in the bustling Barbary Coast San Francisco of the Gold Rush era. Legendary hard-edged action director Robert Aldrich (Kiss Me Deadly, The Dirty Dozen) brings a gentle touch and easygoing humor to this family-oriented adventure, but old habits die hard. While staying within PG parameters, Aldrich adds a little grit to the Old West fistfights and gunfights. --Sean Axmaker
