Movie Review: Hendricks is Awe Inspiring
Summary: 4 Stars
The musical performances of these two wonderfully listenable, modern French choral and orchestral compositions is excellent. However, the true greatness of this event is the singing of Barbara Hendricks. Her voice perfectly matches the need of clarity and beauty of tone as well as the extraordinary dynamic range. Her pianissimos are in a league by themselves. I am also amazed by her relaxed yet moving facial expressions. Singers in performance are not always attractive. She is stunning. The location of the performance, St. Dennis Basilica just north of Paris, is fascinating. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is the filming seems at times weak and the abrubt stopping of the filming as soon as the applause starts bothers me. But get this for the pairing of these wonderful pieces and the performance of Hendricks.
