Movie Review: Excelllent... Wish it were longer....

I really enjoyed Creatures Fantastic: Spirits of the forest. This continues the excellent British series which features tales from various cultures about the Forest. There is a beautifully filmed piece about Gawain and the Green Knight, and an excellent feature about the Witch Babayaba.

I recommend this video for students of myth, and myth enthusiasts which would like to take a closer look at myths and cultural beliefs about the forest and its mythic denizens.

Because of scenes of violence and death, I would recommend this video for teenagers and adults.

The nature of the forest is explored through dramatization and storytelling in this Creatures Fantastic video, Spirits of the Forest. Myths about the woods are brought to life, and although at times the music swells a little melodramatically, the video is educational and stirs the imagination, demonstrating that the archetypal forest and all of its creatures are found universally within legends from around the world, from Sir Gawain and the Green Knight in British mythology to the Russian myth of Babayaga to the eerie character of Bigfoot in the United States.
