Movie Review: Great children's film
Summary: 5 Stars
I liked it and found it to be well-paced compared to some of its contemporaries (although it is still a bit slow compared to many modern movies). The big surprise though was how much my six year old daughter enjoyed it, laughing out loud like a banshee several times. I think that's the first time she's done that when we've watched a film together, and believe me we've been through a whole library. Perhaps it was because of the somewhat sinister opening, which may have frightened her a bit and built up the expectation of some nasties to follow, when in fact the comedy comes on stream instead. So perhaps she was laughing out of relief. Or perhaps it was just the excellent performance of Mr. Ustinov, a fine comic actor with wonderful delivery and timing. I wouldn't personally describe it as a hilarious film, but it does have some great set pieces such as the field sports scenes where the ghost helps hopeless Godolphin on to victory. Moreover, it is one of those films that leaves a pleasant aftertaste, and a slightly nostalgic wistfulness for a simpler time with simpler moviesMovie Review: Fun disney movie

I have read other reviews complaining about the quality and sound on this dvd. We have experienced no problems in that regard on the DVD we have received. The sound and quality is fine.
This classic movie is funny. My children have laughed and laughed at it. There are no bad words, no iffy scenes, nothing that would get me to turn off this movie and not allow my children to watch it.
Fair warning though, the pirate Blackbeard does like his drink.
This is just one of the old Disney classics that is a lot of fun to watch. Enjoy

Award-winning actor Peter Ustinov stars in this hilarious fantasy as the ghost of the legendary pirate Blackbeard. The once blackhearted scoundrel materializes in a small New England town, cursed to wander in limbo until he performs a good deed. He gets his chance when he decides to help a local college track team ... that hasn't a ghost of a chance of winning! Blackbeard finds himself full of team spirit, and dispensing his own brand of invisible coaching ... in this warmhearted comedy that will have you laughing from his first fade-in to his final fade-out!In the moody prologue, amid a raging storm that evokes Hollywood golden-age high-seas swashbucklers, a foreboding scroll recounts the legend of one of the bloodiest pirates in the history of the Caribbean. Leave it to Disney to turn him into a fun-loving old prankster with a whimsical side.
